Those who bring their furry friends will also receive a coupon for a FREE hot dog and all dogs will receive a complimentary biscuit! Please note: There will be a coach reserved for those unable to ride with our furry friends. All dogs must be on a leash.
Joining us this year is Furever Home Rescue located in Orwigsburg, Pa. They have been rescuing dogs for over 19 years. Their mission is to provide a safe haven for shelter dogs, homeless dogs and owner surrenders. They take these special souls into their home-based sanctuary where they become part of the family; giving all animals the medical care they need and a safe place where they can live out their days with a warm bed, a full belly and an abundance of love!

Do you have questions about the Bow Wow Express?
Can I really bring my dog on the train?
Yes. The Bow Wow Express is designed especially for guests who want to enjoy a WK&S train ride with their pets.
Are pets other than dogs allowed on the Bow Wow Express?
Yes. Even though the event is called the Bow Wow Express, other well-behaved pets are welcome. Since there will likely be several dogs aboard, any pet you bring should be calm, comfortable around barking dogs, and able to handle the sounds and activity of the train ride.
Do I need to make a reservation for my pet too?
Yes. Reservations are required for people and pets, so make sure your animal companion is included when you purchase your tickets. Pet tickets are $4 each, and proceeds from those tickets are donated to Furever Home Rescue.
What does my pet receive during the Bow Wow Express?
Dogs riding the Bow Wow Express receive a complimentary biscuit. Guests who bring a furry friend also receive a coupon for a free hot dog, making this a fun outing for both ends of the leash.
What should I expect during the Bow Wow Express experience?
You’ll enjoy a scenic 45-minute train ride aboard the WK&S Railroad with your pet by your side. A photographer will be on-site taking photos, and Furever Home Rescue will also be part of the event. It’s a relaxed way to enjoy the railroad while including a four-legged member of the family.
What happens if someone in my group cannot ride near dogs?
WK&S reserves a coach specifically for passengers who are unable to ride with dogs. That allows friends or family members to still enjoy the train ride while having some separation from the pets aboard.
Are there any special rules for pets riding the train?
Dogs must be kept on a leash, and all pets should remain under their owner’s control throughout the event. Because the train can be busy and there may be barking dogs nearby, bring a pet that is comfortable in that kind of setting and won’t become overly stressed or disruptive.
What times does the Bow Wow Express leave?
Trains depart at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. WK&S trains leave promptly, so plan to arrive early enough to park, check in, and get ready to board.
Is my online confirmation my actual train ticket?
No. Your confirmation email is not your actual boarding ticket. When you arrive at WK&S, stop at the ticket office to receive your official train ticket before boarding.
Are there restrooms on the train?
No. There are no restrooms aboard the train, so it’s a good idea for both people and pets to take care of those needs before boarding.
What should I bring for my pet?
Bring the leash, carrier, or other safe restraint your pet normally uses, along with anything else needed for a comfortable outing, such as water and waste bags. Since the ride lasts about 45 minutes and there may be time spent around the station, a little preparation can make the experience easier for both you and your pet.
Who is Furever Home Rescue, and why are they part of the event?
Furever Home Rescue is based in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, and works to provide care and safe placement for dogs in need. Proceeds from the Bow Wow Express pet tickets are donated to Furever Home Rescue, so the event also helps support their work.
Is the Bow Wow Express only held once a year?
No. The Bow Wow Express is held at the beginning and end of the regular WK&S riding season. It is our way of saying you can bring along your dog for any rides on our regularly scheduled days. Please, only service dogs for special events.
