Testimonials

“We discovered this place by chance on Google looking for a train ride for the kids and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all! Great experience, the kids really enjoyed it and so did us adults. The staff is exceptional here – I believe most, if not all, are volunteers. They were all super friendly, helpful and willing to share history and stories. The train ride lasts a good 40 minutes, plus they did a switchover – after we went to the one end, they move the engine around to the front of the train to return. You can ride an open air car, caboose & passenger cars through the country side over a few bridges, crossings and along and over a creek or two. They also have those open mini cars you can ride on the rails, a nice model railroad display in a caboose, a gift shop, refreshments, and more. Well worth it, especially on kids day! All very, very reasonably priced in comparison to other similar train rides.”

“It was a very special day. Everyone was so welcoming and happy. The location is beautiful!
My grandson is visually impaired and he had quite a bit of anxiety before we boarded. Dave came along and stepped right up. He really helped him enjoy the experience. Thanks for the hat Dave! The train itself is a very pleasant ride. Dave told us to find him when we got back. He promptly scooped up my grandson and took him on the motor car. He kept a him calm and Chris the driver was great too.
We loved our ice cream and my grandson had the opportunity to ride a miniature horse!
It was a great day and I highly recommend the experience for everyone.
Thank you to all!”

“We had a wonderful visit to the train station yesterday with my grand babes who are visiting from Bermuda. They are 3 and 15 months. They loved the train ride and the petting zoo. My grandson even rode a pony for the first time. They even let him blow the train whistle in the museum for the miniature trains. Everyone was so friendly, informative and helpful. Even when I tripped into a hole that had opened up in the macadam near the snack bar they were right there making sure I was ok after bringing to their attention. What a wonderful experience we had! Definitely will be back!”

“One of my favorite places. The area surrounding the railroad is incredible, awesome scenery. The employees are all knowledgeable and friendly, and the setting of the Kempton station is very rustic; when you visit, it feels like you’re stepping back in time. The ride is only forty minutes, but if you like quaint towns with a neat little train ride, then this railroad is for you. Its also conveniently located near Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, which is also a go-to must. 5* here!”

“We took our son on his first train ride this weekend, and he loved the pumpkin patch train. Very reasonably priced – nice to be able to have a family day without breaking the bank, and the ride is very enjoyable. Every volunteer I encountered was friendly and helpful. We will be back for the Santa Special, weather permitting since we have a 40 minute drive there.”

“A visit to the WK&S is a MUST for everyone! I’ve been visiting the railroad for over 25 years and have always loved being there. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The grounds and equipment are all kept in tip-top shape by a dedicated group of volunteers. The interaction with WK&S staff always proves to be nothing but professional! Pack up the family and enjoy a visit to the WK&S soon! You will not be disappointed!”

“We have gone on several local train rides. The fall foliage train ride and apple picking today was great! The length of the ride is good for younger children because it’s not too long for them to sit. My boys loved it!”

“WK&S hold great events through the year. My family and I, have enjoyed many of them. The Civil War event this past weekend was fantastic! From the train ride with President Lincoln, meeting Civil War personalities to riding the horse drawn carriage. The reenactors took their time to talk to everyone and answer questions. Their staff is always very courteous and friendly. We hope they make the Civil War event a yearly one.
This is a wonderful place for the entire family!!!”
